Danville, PA—More than 130 bariatric surgery patients and their families and friends attended the annual “Celebration of Success” for the Nutrition and Bariatric Surgery Program at Geisinger Medical Center. This year’s “Celebration of Success” took place on Saturday, September 8 outside of Knapper Clinic on the Campus of Geisinger Medical Center.

The event included an appearance by Barbara Thompson, who is the best-selling author of “Weight Loss Surgery: Finding the Thin Person Hiding Inside You.” The day’s festivities included an optional health walk/run, an awards ceremony, which honored patients on their achievements throughout the program and the creation of a photo display with our patients’ before and after pictures.

“After tallying it up, we found that the total weight loss among the attendees was more than eight tons,” said Christopher Still, DO, director of Geisinger’s Center of Nutrition and Weight Management, “But the most important thing to remember is the patients are now much healthier and off of thousands of medications, insulin vials and sleep apnea machines as a result of following through with our program.”
